The sponsor of the Mein Regenwald Project is the non-profit organization Chance e.V., an interdenominational, Christian initiative for sustainable development with project focuses in Amazonia and East Africa.

Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals

For over 15 years, we have been committed to implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Our work focuses on people, their communities and their habitats. Our activities are divided into four focal areas:

Conservation

Conservation

People live in and from ecosystems. We protect large-scale ecosystems such as rainforests and savannas, create connected natural areas to preserve their biodiversity, and empower people to conserve and use natural resources responsibly.

Indigenous communities

Indigenous communities

We accompany indigenous village communities on the edge of large protected areas and in ecologically valuable regions so that they can shape and defend their communal self-government, territorial rights and identity in harmony with nature in a self-determined way. They increase their quality of life, escape poverty and create the framework conditions so that future generations can still live in their villages.

Education for sustainable development

Education for sustainable development

To give sustainable development a chance, knowledge, know-how and awareness are needed. We empower families, groups and village communities through knowledge transfer, holistic education and skills to improve their living conditions in a sustainable and holistic way by managing natural resources carefully, understanding interrelationships, defending their rights and developing alternative economic sectors.

Children and youth

Children and youth

We empower children and youth in the context of their families and village communities by accompanying them holistically. They become agents of sustainable development based on knowledge, positive values and balanced self-confidence.

In addition to the Central Peruvian Amazon, we work in village communities of the Maasai people in the Kenyan part of the Maasai Mara-Serengeti ecosystem.

Christian responsibility for nature

The Mein Regenwald sanctuary is probably the largest nature reserve in the world initiated and run by a Christian organization. Our commitment to the environment is not only based on the fact that man cannot survive without an intact nature. As creation, nature with all its life forms is intrinsically valuable. Protecting it is our responsibility to each other and to God.

The Mein Regenwald Team

Elizabeth

Mainly responsible for all projects in Peru

"Mein Regenwald is a unique opportunity to work towards a sustainable world in an intercultural and interdisciplinary environment. I'm especially excited about the many synergies of the project that arise because we understand the local people and ecosystem as one."

Freddy

Forest Engineer
primarily responsible for Mein Regenwald

"Mein Regenwald is the project of my dreams because it preserves the natural wealth of my native Peru as a heritage of humanity before it is too late. We protect endangered plant and animal species whose populations are recovering thanks to our work. Together with the local population, we are saving ecosystems and natural cycles for future generations - that gives me courage and hope!"

Alex

Agricultural engineer responsible for sustainable agriculture and organic coffee

"Mein Regenwald inspires me because the project works with people and actively involves them in every phase of the work. The holistic approach in accompanying and empowering the small farmers convinces me, because together we all succeed in establishing social, economic and ecological aspects as supporting pillars of sustainable development."

Mariana

Forestry engineer Responsible for reforestation

"Mein Regenwald is more than a project, it is a philosophy of life. That's why my work in the project gives me deep satisfaction, because I know that as the person responsible for reforestation, I am helping to restore destroyed, lost areas, reducing the pressure on the last virgin forests. Mein Regenwald has a unique participatory approach where local people become one of the main stakeholders in conservation."
